Masaisai Primary School learn soybean farming

Masaisai Primary School pupils in Soybean Production
Elizabeth Musimwa, the Director of Trecc Foods Pvt Ltd, took time to show students from Masaisai Primary School in Bluff Hill area, Harare urban, Zimbabwe a new farming technology for Soybean production

Soybean seed is mixed or quoted with rhizobia

to enhance  the seeds' nodulation capacity. That way generally, there would be no need to apply top dressing fertiliser in the form of Ammonium Nitrate because the plant would have adequate nitrogen for its use.
Students were shown how to mark shallow lines using a garden fork, stick or hand held hoe and how to mark straight lines using a rope. They were also shown how to place the seed at a distance of 5 to 7 cm between stations.

Each student had a potion allocated to them for a planting demonstration.
Rosemary Chesa quickly planted her portion.
Shannon Jones and Elsie Zengeya below smiled and loved their work
.....
Tatenda Matimbira remembered that soybean seed is covered with very little soil. Some farmers drag a dry but light tree branch.  Masaisai primary school students used peach tree branches and others used their hands.

After 23 days sample plants were pulled out for students to see the nodules responsible for fixing nitrogen.
Brendon Maurikira took time to join the weeding team during the school holidays.
Tendeso Musimwa prides in their mature soybean crop almost ready for harvesting
Zimbabwe’s youths are tomorrow’s farmers. There is need to catch them young!
